Monday at Maymont

Just when I thought Spring would never arrive, BAM! 80 degree weather!
I had a gorgeous day off on Monday which I spent leisurely with friends

These legs NEED sunshine!
at Maymont Park. Maymont is a beautiful Victorian
estate overlooking the James River left to the people of Richmond
by wealthy lawyer James Dooley and his wife Sallie May. As in
Sallie "Maymont" May. Love it.
Built 1893

In addition to the beautiful old mansion, there's an arboretum, a petting zoo, gardens
(including a Japanese garden with a koi pond), a wildlife exhibit, fountains,
bamboo trails, waterfalls...the perfect place to spend a sunny spring afternoon.

I'm a sucker for flower pictures...

I'm definitely going to make it a point to come here more often
to study, meditate, exercise... unwind.

I can see why this place is booked solid for weddings. I think every time
I've been I've seen a bride getting her portrait done.

The gardens are so elegant I couldn't resist some black & white fun!

Maymont Monday was just what I needed: fresh air, friends, enjoying the
natural world, and sunshine on my extremities. Perhaps most
importantly, I can now cross off another item on
my RVA Scavenger Hunt: photo in a gazebo at Maymont!
