Ireland for St. Patty's

In 1998 I traveled with my dance team to Ireland to perform in the
St Patrick's Day Parade and Lord Mayor's Ball in Dublin. I rocked the
coolest pair of Adidas pants I owned, my bushy pre-flat iron hair,
and spent a great deal of effort trying to conceal my new belly ring while
wearing various spandex costumes. I spent the trip listening to
Mariah Carey's Butterfly album on my portable CD player
and snapping pictures with my disposable Kodak camera.

It was something from my bucket list long before I even knew what
a bucket list was. I would, however, like to return to Ireland
for St. Patty's Day as an adult. As a 16 year old with more
chaperones than I cared to answer to, I definitely didn't experience
much in the way of pubs or exciting nightlife. Of course, boozing it up isn't
what Ireland is all about, contrary to the stereotype. We visited more castles
than I can count, sipped mead, saw the Cliffs of Moher, took Irish Dance lessons
(as in the infamous River Dance) and toured more of this gorgeous
country than I thought possible given our time constraints.

I will always remember that St Patty's Day with so much laughter and love.

After returning home we wowed the judges with our new Irish Dancing Skills
