Fat Tuesday

It's Mardi Gras already?
Hmmmm well I didn't make it to New Orleans or Brazil again this year, but both are certainly on the bucket list. I was 12 when I last visited the Big Easy. I was in Brazil in November of 2003, but no wild parties or parades. Ok, no parades.

I've always loved the over-the-top costumes & parties associated with this holiday. In fact, my sister's Bachelorette party was a Mardi Gras themed extravaganza in Savannah.
{April & Me}
{We tend to attract lots of attention}
{We like to party with boas}
{I highly recommend themed bar hopping}

Fat Tuesday. What a holiday for a girl like me. According to Wikipedia, "popular practices include wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, sports competitions, parades, etc." According to my Catholic upbringing, Ash Wednesday is tomorrow and Lent officially begins.

What am I giving up for lent? I like the idea of sharing my decision so that I may be held accountable, but I also feel that my spiritual life is largely private & perhaps making a big show if it is inappropriate. Years ago I decided to never make it about food. As a vegetarian, the no meat on Fridays thing was pointless... and giving up chocolate or junk food just felt like I was using Jesus to try to be skinnier. This year, I've decided to give up sleeping in.
