1. I got laid off from company A last year. I was on H1B. Company A notified me about 1 month in advance so I had some time to find another job. I also had a valid EAD which I wasn't using at that time. They also did not cancel I-140.
2. I joined Company B using my EAD within the 30 day period, so I never went out of status. Also, I didn't file AC21
3. My GC application was approved in the first week of Aug.

I have a couple of really interesting opportunities that I would like to pursue. My job profile has been similar at both A and B and will likely be similar even in C should I join there. Am I required to work at B for any specific period of time before I can pursue these opportunities?

I am a July filer and have the option of working for a reputable company as expert consultant for 6 months (initial offer). Yates memo indicates that self-employment is possible. Here is my question: Do we need to register a company to be considered self-employed? As a consultant you may not have a customer for while. Isn't it better to register a company if you want to claim self employment? What are the pros and cons of registering a company?

The absence of I485 receipt may be an issue, because they would put a stamp on that paper after taking your (I485) FP. They would do the same on your EAD FP notice letter.

Nothing unusual...infact just a tiny tip of an iceberg. Family based immigration including marriage constitute close to 85-90% of US new immigrants. Other avenues being tightened in recent years, we are sure to see more and more. In fact in recent years I have seen many H1Bs/F1 marrying USC.

For every case being busted, there are many many undetected cases. It is called legal arbitrage, with other areas being tightened amd under attack and marriage based being relatively untouched, it is a matter of time that one will increase.
